16/07/19 United Kingdom, London – One of Britain’s most iconic fashion designers famous for her great work revolutionised British Fashion in the 60’s. Mary Quant’s post-war pieces added colour on the bleak London streets, which made them stand out from the crowd. From the famous miniskirts to the fun PVC rainwear, her designs empowered the youth and set the trends for what we see in fashion today.

This year, the V&A in London opened the first international retrospective on Dame Mary Quant. The exhibition explores the years between 1955 and 1975, when Quant revolutionised the high street, harnessing the youthful spirit of the sixties and new mass production techniques to create a new look for women.

Quant is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious World Fashion Awards taking place at London Savoy on the 18th September 2019. The award celebrates her amazing journey as a powerful role model for the working woman, challenging conventions, whilst popularising the miniskirt, colourful tights, and tailored trousers. The award will also celebrate the fact that she was a catalyst for encouraging a new age of feminism.

Mary Quant commented “It is such an honour to receive this award from the World Fashion Awards. It has been a privilege to have spent my life doing what I love and enjoy with so many extraordinarily talented and passionate people.”
The World Fashion Awards celebrates the achievements of established and emerging fashion brands, outlets, designers, models, manufacturers and influencers. The public get to decide on who gets nominated and who eventually wins in the curated categories.

Following in Quant’s footsteps, are plethora of other trailblazing designers who have also set precedent in the fashion industry and are all nominated for the Womenswear Designer of the Year at this year’s first annual World Fashion Awards. Amongst the nominees in the shortlist include Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham, Elie Saab, Simone Rocha, Stacey Bendet, Sophie Couture, Clare Waight Keller and many more.
